Call of Duty

Changing genre?!

There's some understandable confusion about what's happening to Call of Duty after the Treyarch-developed Call of Duty is released later in 2010. I've obtained an internal memo sent to Activision employees at the same time today's news release went out that better clarifies what's happening to Call of DutyHere's how it breaks down.

Treyarch is making the Call of Duty coming in 2010. Someone else (possibly Infinity Ward) is making the Call of Duty that's due in 2011. Sledgehammer Games' project is something else entirely.

The internal memo was prepared by Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith and in addition to citing Infinity Ward as "central to Call of Duty's future," it makes clear that Sledgehammer's "action-adventure" take on Call of Duty is separate from another Call of Duty game hitting in 2011.

"2010 is expected to be another big year for Call of Duty," said Griffith, "with Treyarch developing a new title for fall release, Infinity Ward's downloadable content for Modern Warfare 2 in the works now, and a new Call of Duty title expected to be released in 2011."

Here's where the 2011 Call of Duty and Sledgehammer's game become distinctly separate.

"In addition," said Griffith, making the distinction between the two games clear, "Sledgehammer Games is in development on a Call of Duty title in the action-adventure genre. It's an exciting time and it's the right time to ensure the appropriate resources are there to support Call of Duty's growth."

It's possible the Sledgehammer Games' project is also released in 2011 but Griffith seems to make it clear there will continue to be annualized Call of Duty shooters going forward. This "action-adventure" take on Call of Duty is in addition to that. Does that make sense? My head hurts.

Six days in Fallujah

Finished, coming out

Atomic Games' controversial shooter Six Days in Fallujahis ready to roll out.

A source close to the game's development confirmed to IGN this morning the title is still planned for release, though no expected release date or publisher was named.

"I can promise you that game is still coming out and it is finished," the source said.

Six Days in Fallujah got off to a rocky start last April when then publisher Konami dropped the title just weeks after revealing it to the press. Our source said Konami was "too scared" to publish the title after the negative reaction the title garnered.

In August, Atomic Games suffered layoffs due to the studio's inability to secure a funded publishing deal. While the total reduced headcount was never confirmed, reports at the time suggested nearly 80 percent of the staff was let go with only a skeleton crew remaining.

The fate of the studio was very much left up in the air, but this news seems to indicate Atomic Games is still open in some capacity. We'll keep you updated if we hear anything else

COD: Modern Warfare 2

Trouble at IW

G4tv.com's Patrick Klepek is reporting that a "tense" situation is brewing at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward. Citing a "source close to the... developer", Patrick paints a picture of what could be going on between IW and owner Activision Blizzard.

According to the story, "Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West reportedly met with Activision this morning and have not been seen by Infinity Ward staff members since." Later in the day, non-uniformed "bouncers" arrived at Infinity Ward, but would not explain why they were there.

No official word has been released by either company at this time.

Earlier today, Activision filed an SEC report that mentioned looking into "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward" and noted "this matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation."

Additionally, a post on Facebook by Infinity Ward president Jason West, confirmed to be legitimate, mentions being newly unemployed. West has also updated his LinkedIn profile with a March 2010 end-date for his position at IW.

Square Enix:   Final Fantasy XIII-

-will sell as well as its predecessors

Square Enix has claimed that Final Fantasy XIII will match the phenomenal sales of its predecessors in the FF series - calling the game a "landmark release for the current generation"

IT will have a job keeping up with Final Fantasy VII: The biggest-selling game in the franchise's history, after shifting more than 9.5 million copies worldwide.

Final Fantasy XIII has receieved
some glowing review scores in the lead up to its UK release on March 9th - but has also been criticised by some publications for offering a more linear gameplay experience than previous Final Fantasy games, somethingSquare has pinned on the 'Western' viewpoint of some critics.

"Since its initial announcement at E3 in 2006, the anticipation for Final Fantasy XIII has been growing and growing, and is now reaching fever pitch," said Square Enix senior brand manager Adrian Arnese to industry site MCV. "The game has been regularly topping pre-order charts and the rate of pre-orders is increasing as we get closer to its launch."

"All this considered, our aim is for Final Fantasy XIII to be a landmark release for the current hardware generation, with sales results in line with previous main Final Fantasy releases."

He added:

"The series is defined by constant evolution, with each release delivering nothing less than the finest creative vision and audio/visual quality - Final Fantasy XIII will be no exception."

"Final Fantasy XIII lets players embark on an adventure beyond their wildest dreams, packed with breathtaking environments to explore, unique allies to befriend, and awe-inspiring enemies to conquer.

"An immersive storyline draws the player ever closer to a cast of intriguing characters. Will they have the strength to face their fate, or are they doomed to destroy everything they love?

"There is a level of craftsmanship, detail design and quality here that is second to none, setting a new benchmark for the realisation of video game worlds and characters."

Dead or Alive: Paradise

 Goal was not soft porn

"That's certainly not something we're intentionally going for," he said. "From our perspective, we're trying to make beautiful women, that has been the focus - we want our characters to be beautiful. The DOA characters are strong and that they look the way they do is based on trying to bring out the beauty of women."Dead or Alive: Paradise director Yoshinori Ueda has told Eurogamer that his PSP game is not supposed to be softcore pornography nor degrading towards women, despite titillating promotional videos and a marketing slogan that reads, "Paradise in the palm of your hand."

"We're certainly not trying to degrade women. They have beautiful bodies. We're trying to show off the beauty of their bodies but we're not trying to be degrading about it - we're trying to show that they are beautiful characters."

"It's not that we were trying to make softcore porn. That's definitely not the goal."

In Dead or Alive: Paradise, bikini-clad girls take part in various paradise beach games like volleyball and going to the casino. Players can also have the girls pose for the camera and take photographs of them.

That element of the game irked America's ESRB age-ratings board, which claimed DOA: Paradise was filled with "creepy voyeurism" and "bizarre, misguided notions of what women really want". The ESRB later apologised and offered a more level-headed explanation for the mature rating.

"We know that everyone is going to have a different experience with the game - everyone has their own opinion," shrugged Ueda. "For us, the goal was really to offer a little bit of paradise to the users, and we hope that people playing the game will be able to come away with the feeling that they've visited paradise."

Ueda understands that DOA: Paradise isn't a game in "the traditional sense". "What we offer is a selection of things to play and activities to have fun with. The players have the freedom to play Paradise however they want," he said.

Dead or Alive: Paradise will be released on 2nd April.

EA

Expanding Salt Lake City Studio With Former Sims Devs

Electronic ArtsElectronic Arts today said it is expanding its existing Salt Lake City, Utah development studio as it ramps up work on a new "groundbreaking project," whose team will be formed by a core from EA Redwood Shores' The Sims Studio.

An unspecified number of The Sims Studio developers are making the move, but EA has yet to fill out the team; in a statement, the company said it is still seeking to fill various "critical leadership" positions.

"We're truly thrilled to expand into Salt Lake City and what is becoming a growing and dynamic video game development scene," said EA's Ben Bell. Bell is one of the Sims developers making the move, having most recently served as executive producer on The Sims 3.

The move comes after Electronic Arts made sweeping layoffs across numerous internal studios. CEO John Riccitiello also recently observed the high cost of employment in EA's home state of California, saying the company would be looking closely at more affordable development centers in other states and countries.

EA Salt Lake was created in 2006 when Electronic Arts acquired Headgate Studios. Headgate was founded in 1992 and was briefly owned by Sierra Entertainment between 1996 and 1999.

Prior to the EA purchase, Headgate had established a long relationship with EA as a developer of Tiger Woods PGA Tour games. Since the EA Salt Lake transition it has been focused most heavily on Wii games of various genres.

NEWS IN GENERAL

Well After the flop that was the release of MW2 we now find ourself looking forward to the big hitter game releases intime for Christmas!  With some glorious games already released and one amazing catalogue of games still to come the "I WANT!" list just gets bigger and bigger!

Heres some of the latest and upto date game news on all formats!

So what about this MW2 thing that got released??

Well let me tell you...  what should have been the biggest game of the year for all of us turned into one of the biggest flops of all time!  Dont get me wrong its a fantastic game full of features and grrrreat gameplay.  Single player is amazing with a well written story that make you wish it could be just that little longer.  Multiplayer is great too, lots of weps perks and maps.

So whats wrong with the game?  I hear you ask, well let me tell you....  NO FUCKING DEDICATED SERVERS!  This may just be a little thing to most, but on the PC, its waht makes things soooo much better for us to game with.  Without it, you can choose...

-How long Maps should take (its over in mins)

-What map you want to play (you can vote "skip", but u need more than half the server)

-How many people you want to play with (decided by the perogramers to be 8-16)

-What setup you would like and noob perks allowed (trust me thewres some bad ones)

- inability to kick little shiots that spam, shout, piss around or HAX!  (For god sake, you cant even kick a haxor!)

- the wait you have to go through when you finished a 2 min long map, then have to wait 10 more mins to find more players to start another.

This may sound like me whinin, I did infact like the game upon release thinking i could get over it.  I was infact WRONG!  Just like IW!  So on that note, just torrent the shit outa it untill they release a dedicated server patch!  Read more about this on our forum thread here

So what did come out thats worth buying?

Well Padawans let me tell you!  lets go thr ough what I have been playing lately.....

L4D2 What a Game!.....

Yes, this game is indeed the Beez Kneez!  I could easuly play this game all day and night.  I only just bought the L4D1 game as it was on offer due to the release of this, I was that inpressed that I just had to buy this one too.  If you would like to try B4 you buy you can download the multiplayer DEMO with steam for free.  We have also setup 4 new servers too, including a MP DEMO server.  So no excuse to play with us here!

MW2 it churns me inside but i have to show you...

No point in reviewing this as I think ive stated it all above.  It does atleast deserver to have a vid on the site however!

BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM what a goooood surprise!

This little review is indeed true to its tale.  I HATE these kindsa games, infact theyr lucky to last 2 mins installed on my PC, but this is indeed superb!  One of the best games I have ever played in a few years.  If I was you I would download this game NOW!

OK then, What should we be looking forward to?

Well, Im gonna keep this short and sweet with just 3 games.  One of which I think even IW have managed to promote since their stab in the back to PC gamers.  So here it is, the game thats gonna rock the new year.......!

BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 what a masterpiece!

Assassins Creed 2 Another surprise?

AVP2 First one was a breakthough, and this?
